How to Clean a Sunbrella® Patio Umbrella
Do you have a patio umbrella with a Sunbrella canopy? Excellent choice. Sunbrella outdoor fabrics provide sun protection and lasting performance. The colors fade so much less because the fibers are saturated with UV-stable pigments that won’t wash off over time. Sunbrella fabric resists mold and mildew growth, too.
That said, your umbrella will still get dirty, because it’s outside. Mold and mildew won’t grow on the fabric itself, but spores can grow on the stuff that lands on it. Between pollution, cookout smoke, birds, tree debris and who knows what else, your umbrella will need regular cleaning to stay spiffy.
It’s a good idea to brush and hose it off monthly with clear water. That way, you’ll only need to clean it thoroughly every 2-3 years (in most environments).
How to clean your Sunbrella patio umbrella while it's on the frame
- Brush off loose dirt and debris
- Hose down
- Clean with mild soap and water solution using a soft bristle brush, letting solution penetrate fabric*
- Rinse soap off completely
- Air dry – do not close umbrella until it's completely dry
*For mildew stains, use a diluted bleach & soap solution. Bleach is OK for Sunbrella canopies, but not recommended for other fabrics. For roof run-off stains, use a strong degreaser.
