The Outdoor Essentials® Pro Series vinyl fence line is a complete fence-building system composed of compatible fence panels, gates, and routed posts. What makes this line unique—and great for both pros and experienced DIYers—is how the panels are assembled and attached to posts.

With the Pro Series, both rails and posts have routed holes. To assemble a fence panel, you slide and lock pickets into rails. To build the fence, attach completed panels to posts by inserting top and bottom rails into routed holes.

The rails have locking tabs on each end that securely lock them into posts. Because no fasteners or glues are used, your fence will have a clean appearance.

What’s in a Pro Series fence panel kit

Outdoor Essentials Pro Series panel kits come with top rails, reinforced bottom rails and pickets. Some panels also come with U-channels.

The important thing to remember is that Pro Series panels are designed to fit specific routed posts. When shopping, be sure that the post and panel styles have the same name.

The following overviews show how Pro Series spaced picket and privacy panels are assembled. (Note that the manufacturer’s instructions included with products are more detailed).

HOW TO ASSEMBLE A PRO SERIES SPACED PICKET PANEL

Note: You’ll need to have the first post installed in the ground and will need to install the second post before completing the panel. Top and bottom rails have holes for pickets to slide through.

Step 1: Insert bottom rail into the bottom routed hole in post.

Step 2: Install and temporarily secure second post, following manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 3: Insert the other end of the bottom rail into second post.

Step 4: Insert one end of the top rail into top routed hole in first post.

Step 5: Slide pickets through the holes in the top rail down into holes in the bottom rail.

Step 6: When all pickets have been inserted, insert top rail into the second post. The panel is now assembled! Continue following manufacturer’s instructions to complete fence.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE A PRO SERIES PRIVACY PANEL

Note: You’ll need to have the first post installed in the ground and will need to install the second post before completing the panel. Top and bottom rails have channels into which you insert privacy pickets

Step 1: Insert bottom rail into the bottom hole routed into first post.

Step 2: Attach the included U-channel to first post (if needed).

Step 3: Install and temporarily secure second post, following manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 4: Insert the other end of the bottom rail into the bottom of second post.

Step 5: Attach the included U-channel to second post.

Step 6: Slide first privacy picket into a U-channel. Insert picket end into channel of bottom rail.

Step 7: Install remaining pickets, fitting each tongue-and-groove picket into the one next to it.

Step 8: Secure top rail into top routed hole in first post. Slide rail over pickets, one by one.

Step 9: Fit and lock end of top rail into second post. The panel is now assembled! Continue following manufacturer’s instructions to complete fence.

FINAL STEPS

  1. Finish the tops of posts with matching vinyl fence post caps (sold separately).
  2. Stand and stare admiringly at your new fence. Good job!
