Teak is one of the best, longest-lasting woods for outdoor furniture because it ages well. It’s tight grained with high levels of oils that help prevent deterioration from weather, bugs, and mold. The center (heart) wood contains more oil and is therefore more prized. These oils move to the surface of new teak furniture. Rain will cause the oils to bleed out until the furniture begins to turn gray. For this reason, during the first few rainfalls pull the bar stool out from under teak tables.
New teak furniture's golden brown color will gradually weather to a neutral silver-gray shade (in 9-24 months, depending on climate). Checking (small cracks) may appear on the end grain of the wood—this is normal and will not affect structural integrity.
All HiTeak furniture is made using heart wood from responsibly harvested trees that are 30+ years old. The wood is kiln dried to eliminate shrinking, so your furniture will keep its structural integrity and resist deterioration from weather, bugs or mold.
Furniture is built with dowels, mortise-and-tenon joints and 304-grade stainless steel hardware. Each piece is hand sanded on all sides.
HiTeak teak furniture needs minimal care. To clean, hose down (do not pressure wash). Scrub with soft brush and mild soapy water. For deeper cleaning, use HiTeak Teak Cleaner, sold separately.
Manufacturer does not recommend using teak oils or finishes other than HiTeak Teak Protector, sold separately. Using any other oils or finishes will void the warranty.
