Why would I need an ADA-compliant secondary handrail?

Two reasons. Your local building code may require one on your outdoor stairs. And for family members who are shaky on stairs, a handrail that’s easy to grasp makes a huge difference!

A secondary handrail does not replace a stair railing with balusters. It is installed in conjunction with the stair railing and is meant to give people something to hold onto as they descend stairs.

The versatile Deckorators® Secondary Handrail System is DIY friendly. The flexible system offers many components to fit many types of installations and works with aluminum, wood, and composite railings. It's also compatible with 2.5-inch aluminum posts. Components are sold separately, simply choose the parts you need. But first, check your local building codes.
